NBPEI Major U18 Teams Head to Amherst

Both the NBPEI Major U18 Hockey League and the NS U18 Major Hockey League are heading to Amherst Dec 7th and 8th to play a couple interlocking league exhibition games and regular season league games as part of the Maritime Development Hockey Alliance (MDHA) between the two leagues.  The games, billed as the "Stadium Series" is the start of what is hoped to be an annual event between the leagues where interlocking games are played in neutral locations, not only to reduced the amount of travel involved with interlocking play but also provide the opportunity for communities to host games at the U18 Major level.

Two interlocking league  exhibition games will be played at the Amherst Stadium Saturday December 7th.  The first game will start at  1 pm with the March & Mill Co. Hunters hosting the Fredericton Caps, followed at 4:15 pm with Kensington Wild taking on Weeks Majors.

Sunday, December 8th regular season games will be played in both leagues.  At 11 am Weeks Majors will host March & Mill Co. Hunters from the NS U18 Major Hockey League followed at 3pm with the Moncton Flyers taking on the Charlottetown Knights in the NBPEI Major U18 Hockey League Matchup.

Moncton Flyers Win the 2024 Monctonian Challenge

After going 2-1-0 in the round robin portion of the 43rd Monctonian Challenge. The Flyers advanced to the final against the Halifax Macs after defeating their league rival Charlottetown Knights 5-2 in the semis. The Macs took the long way to the final, playing in the Wildcard game Saturday before advancing through the quarters and semis.

With the score tied at 1 after the first period the Flyers took a 5-2 lead going into the 3rd.  The Macs scored an early third period goal, however were not able to get any closer.  The Flyers solidified the win with an empty netter at the 18:02 mark of the third.

Congratulations to the Moncton Flyers winning the 43rd Monctonian Challenge!!!

Moncton Flyers Win the 2024 Monctonian Challenge

After going 2-1-0 in the round robin portion of the 43rd Monctonian Challenge the Flyers advanced to the finals against the Halifax Macs with a 5-2 semi final win against league rival Charlottetown Knights. The Macs took the long way to the final having to play a Wildcard game in order to advance through the quarters and semis.  

In the final, with the Macs and Flyers tied at 1 after the first, the Flyers opened up a 5-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.  The Macs scored an early goal in the third, however were unable to get any closer with the Flyers scoring an empty netter at the 18:09 mark of the third.

Congratulations to the Moncton Flyers on winning the 43rd Monctonian Challenge!!

NBPEI Major U18 Teams Heading to the Monctonian

All six NBPEI Major U18 teams are set to participate in the 43rd Monctonian tournament hosted by the Moncton Rallye Motors Nissan Flyers, at the Greenfoot Energy 4-plex, Moncton November 14th through November 17th.  This years' Monctonian will have the regions top U15 major, U16 AAA and Major U18 teams competing to claim the championship in the first major tournament of the 2024-25 season.  In addition to teams from the Atlantic Region, teams from both Ontario and Quebec will also see action.

Games start at 8:45 am on Thursday and finish up Sunday afternoon with Championship games in all three divisions.

Major U18 Showcase 2024

The NBPEI U18 and NS U18 Major Hockey Leagues have teamed up this season to hold a single 14 team showcase on the weekend of October 18th - 20th, at the Pictou County Wellness Center in Pictou NS.  The showcase will see all NBPEI teams playing two games each against NS U18 Major teams over the three day event. Games will be regulation games and count toward league standings.

The showcase provides an opportunity for scouts in the region to get look at players early in the season and also allow teams to see their level of compete against the NS teams before heading into the Monctonian, in mid November.  The showcase is the first of what is hoped to be an annual event between the leagues. Next years showcase event will be hosted by the NBPEI league.

In addition to the leagues teaming up for the showcase event, they have both joined forces as part of the "Hockey Fights Cancer" campaign for the 2024-25 season.  The campaign will be from the Showcase weekend to the first week of December.  All funds raised will be presented to the Cancer Society during the IceJam Tournament in Halfax in early January. 

Showcase games start Friday, October 18th with Pictou County Weeks Majors hosting the Saint John Vitos at 4:30 pm and finish up with Cole Harbour Hunters hosting the Charlottetown Island Coastal Knights at 12:30 pm on Sunday October 20th.
