NBPEI Major U18 League Overtime / Shootout Policy

If a game is tied at the completion of three (3) periods of play, a five (5) minute period of sudden death overtime shall be played. During the overtime period each team shall ice not more than four (4) players.

 

In the event a game is still tied after the 5-minute overtime period, a shootout shall occur.  Each team shall identify three players that will shoot on the opposing goaltenders, with the home team having the choice of shooting first or second.

 

Teams remain in the end they finished the overtime period with a 2-minute break before the shootout. If one team scores more goals in their first three shots the game is over and a winner is declared.

 

If the score is still tied after the first three shooters, each team shall provide a new shooter until all players on the game sheet roster have taken a shot.

 

If one team scores in the fourth or higher pairing the game is immediately over and a winner is declared.

 

In the event that the game is still tied after all players on the game sheet have taken a shot, each team shall go through the roster list again. A team losing in the shootout will receive one point.
