NBPEI Major U18 Hockey League Kicks Things Off September 7th

The NBPEI Major U18 Hockey League kicks off the 2024-25 season with the league jamboree hosted by the Moncton Flyers on September 7th and 8th at the Superior Propane Center in Moncton NB.  This will be the first opportunity for teams to get a good look at prospective players playing games against league rivals.  Teams will be carrying expanded rosters and playing two games each day as they work through their selection process.  

The league starts the regular season schedule September 20th with home games in both Charlottetown and Saint John.   The league will consist of a 37 game schedule of which two games will be against teams from the NS U18 Major Hockey League.  The interlocking league games for all teams will be played at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, Pictou NS on October 18-20 at the first annual interlocking league showcase as part of the Maritime Development Hockey Alliance (MDHA).   In addition to the showcase interlock, both the NS and NBPEI Major U18 Leagues will be playing games in Amherst on December 7th and 8th as part of what is planned to be an annual stadium series in communities that don't current have U18 Major hockey.  December 7th will see two exhibition games between the two U18 Major leagues while December 8th will have two regular season games from both leagues in conjunction with an Amherst Ramblers home game.

Telus Representative Kensington Wild Finish on a Positive Note

The Kensington Wild representing the Atlantic Region at the Telus Cup finished on a winning note, defeating the host Sydney Rush 12-2. While not advancing to the playoffs, they represented the Atlantic region well, losing by 1 goal in 3 of their round robin games. Congrats on a great season!

Flyers and Wild Heading to Atlantics

The Moncton Flyers and Kensington Wild will be heading to the U18 AAA Major Atlantics April 4th-7th in Lantz NS. Both teams capped off their respective final series in four games straight.  The Hockey PEI representative, Kensington Wild completed their four game sweep March 17th while the Hockey NB representative, Moncton Flyers finished their four game sweep March 21st. 

The 2024 Atlantics are shaping up to be one of most competitive in years with the top two teams from both the NS and NBPEI U18 Major Leagues facing off against the top team coming out of Newfoundland and Labrador.  The winner at Atlantics will be heading to the 2024 Telus Cup being held April 22-28 in Membertou, NS.

Northern Moose Host End of Season Showcase

The Northern Moose are set to host the second NBPEI Major U18 Showcase of the 2023-24 season.  The showcase taking place at the K.C.Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst on February 24th and 25th will see all six NBPEI teams play their final two games of the regular season.  Although playoff matchups have been determined, game results for four of the six teams are likely to determine home ice advantage going into their Provincial playoff series.  

Action starts with Saint John playing Moncton at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24th and finishes up with Fredericton taking on Northern at  3:30 pm on Sunday, February 25th.  All games will be webcast on Atlantic Hockey Online through AO.Live   Following is the weekend schedule:

February 24th                                                     

11:00 am Saint John vs. Moncton              

2:00 pm Northern vs. Charlottetown        

5:00 pm Kensington vs. Fredericton          

February 25th

9:30 am Charlottetown vs. Saint John

12:30 pm Moncton vs. Kensington

Provincial playoffs will begin the first week of March to determine New Brunswick's Major U18 representative at Atlantics while the Prince Edward Island playoff series will begin the second week of March.  This years Atlantics are being hosted by Dartmouth Steele Subaru in East Hants, Nova Scotia April 4-7, 2024.

NBPEI Major U18 Teams Heading to the IceJam

All NBPEI Major U18 Teams are heading to the 2024 Eaast Coast IceJam tournament this weekend, January 10-14 at the HRM 4-pad in Halifax.  The NBPEI teams have had success at the tournament over the last few years with the Moncton Flyers taking home the 2023 Championship.  All NBPEI teams see action Thursday January 11th, with the Flyers starting things up at 11 am followed by the Fredericton Caps at 1 pm, the Saint John Vitos at 1:30 pm, the Northern Moose at 3 pm, the Kensington Wild at 3:30 pm and the Charlottetown Knights at 5 pm.   The tournament provides teams the last opportunity to see how they perform against other Major U18 teams from across the region in prepartion for their own league playoffs and Atlantics being held in early April. 

The 2023-2024 season has proven to be one of the more competitive seasons for the NBPEI Major U18 League. With less than 15 regular season games remaining 12 points seperate the top five teams. Making every game important for positioning going into the playoffs.  The 2023-2024 regular season wraps up the weekend of February 24th with a showcase hosted by the Northern Moose in Bathurst.  Teams will play two games each which may determine their final placings for the playoffs.
